Assault On Precinct 13 (2005)

“Run fast Sergeant!” – Marion Bishop (“Assault on Precinct 13” – 2005)

It’s not a Happy New Year for Sergeant Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke) and the others at police precinct 13 when a busload of prisoners has to stay overnight.  The night is disrupted when Marcus Duvall (Gabriel Byrne) and his crew are determined to keep Marion Bishop (Laurence Fishburne) and the others from leaving the precinct alive.  While you’re watching “Assault on Precinct 13” here are a few things to look for.

Is That A Reflection?

Near the beginning, Roenick gets out of bed and we have a clear view of the butterfly tattoo on his left shoulder.  He walks to the sink.  When he stands up, we’re supposed to be looking at his reflection in the mirror.  But, if you look closely, the image isn’t flipped like it should be.  If we were actually seeing his reflection, the tattoo would appear to be on the other shoulder.

A Wintry Mix

The bus with Bishop, Beck (John Leguizamo), Smiley (Ja Rule) and Anna (Aisha Hinds) is traveling in the snow storm.  Watch the snow during the scene!  Throughout the scene, we can see that the bus is traveling through a very heavy snowfall.  But, in close-ups of the windshield, from the inside looking out, we see no snow falling!

Keep A Hand On That!

Lieutenant Holloway (Peter Bryant) is outside near the bus when he gets shot.  In the overhead shot of Holloway, we see him fall to the ground and he drops his gun.  When Roenick checks on him a moment later, the close-up of Holloway shows that the gun is back in his right hand.  In the following overhead shot, the gun is back in the snow again.

There’s No Time To Panic!

When Jasper (Brian Dennehy) is looking out the window, he says “they’re surrounding the place”.  We see a right side view of Alex (Maria Bello) with her head against the wall saying “I’m not supposed to be here”.  In the first view of Alex, her fair is down, near her face.  But the next shot of her shows her hair pulled back behind her ear.

Cuffed!

**Beware!  This may contain spoilers!**

Near the end of the movie, we see Capra (Matt Craven) is handcuffed.  He’s still cuffed when they escape through the tunnel.  But, when Iris (Drea de Matteo) drives off in the SUV and it crashes, she sees the other men closing in on them.  An overhead shot of Iris and Capra in the SUV shows the cuffs are now gone!
