How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

"Cute kid.  Bad judge of character.” – The Grinch (“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” – 2000)

Ron Howard’s live version of the classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” hit theaters in 2000.  This time around the Grinch (Jim Carrey) has plans to destroy Christmas for the Whos.  Will Cindy Lou (Taylor Momsen), a young girl trying to find the true meaning of Christmas, be able to thaw his heart?  While you’re watching this holiday film, here are a few things to look out for!

Decorating Tips For Christmas

Betty Lou Who (Molly Shannon) is hanging lights on her house when Cindy Lou and Lou Lou Who (Bill Irwin) arrive home.  Martha May (Christine Baranski) comes outside and shows Betty Lou the latest machine she has for hanging light on the house.  Keep a quick eye when the machine is firing off lights.  The close-up shots of Martha May show the spool of lights between her and the firing mechanism (the lights are being fed into it and then shot out) are lit.  But in the overhead shots, the spool of lights is dark and the lights are only lit when they are fired out of the machine.

He’s Missing His Collar!

Max (the dog) and the Grinch are in Whoville for the first time.  Keep an eye on Max.  He’s wearing a collar before they jump in the trash chute to go home.  (You can see it when the Grinch says “Let’s go home”.)  Max’s collar is missing, however, when they start to jump in the chute.  (When the Grinch says “Fleas before beauty”.)  The collar is back on when they’re being swept through the chute.

Did Someone Catch That?

The Grinch is wreaking havoc in Whoville after the Cheermeister event takes an unexpected turn.  We see the Grinch next to the town’s Christmas tree, which he quickly sets on fire.  Watch closely.  The Grinch is standing next to the tree in a close-up shot.  But in the next overhead shot (watch the lower left of the screen), we see him jump into the arms of the person standing next to him.  The following close-up shots show him back in his original position.

Did Someone Forget To Pay The Light Bill?

The Grinch has loaded his sleigh.  The last thing we see him do is douse all the lights in the village.  But during his first attempt to take off in the sleigh, one shot shows that there are still lights on!
