Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
”What happened in the dungeon between you and Professor Quirrell is a complete secret so naturally the whole school knows.” – Professor Dumbledore (“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” – 2001)
“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” is the first film adaptation of the infamous books by J.K. Rowling. The movie takes us through Harry’s (Daniel Radcliffe) first year at Hogwarts where he, along with friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), must save the sorcerer’s stone before it falls into the evil clutches of Lord Voldemort.
Although the movie was filmed with the latest techniques and special effects, there are still a few blunders to notice.
Platform 9 ¾
In order to get to Platform 9 ¾ , Harry must run at a quick pace through a brick column while pushing his cart. Watch Hedwig’s cage when he is running towards the barricade. A fake owl has been substituted for the real one.
Why a Rat?
When Harry reads the list of animals that can be brought to Hogwarts, he mentions that first year students can bring an owl, cat or toad. Why was Ron allowed to bring Scabbers, a rat?
Watch Your Step
Keep a close eye on the moving staircases inside of Hogwarts. The stairs are supposed to be made of stone. However, in a few scenes, you can see the steps bounce. This is especially noticeable when Harry, Ron and Hermione get stuck on the third floor.
Which Way Did They Go?
At the beginning of the term, Percy Weasley (Chris Rankin) tells the first year boys that their rooms are up the stairs and to their left. Watch the trio when they return after their first encounter with Fluffy, the three headed dog, and are walking the stairs. Hermione goes off to the left while the boys go to the right.
Fluffy Drool
Near the end of the film, when the trio is looking down the trap door, Fluffy suddenly awakens behind them. Harry, Hermione and Ron are oblivious to the impending danger until a large gob of drool falls onto Ron’s shoulder. They immediately jump through the trap door and land in the Devil’s Snare. Fluffy’s drool has suddenly disappeared from Ron’s shoulder.
