National Treasure

”I would've dropped you both!” – Riley (“National Treasure” – 2004)

2004’s “National Treasure” told the story of Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) whose entire family has tried to find a massive hidden treasure since the 1800s.  The clues have finally led him to the Declaration of Independence.  With the help of his friend Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) and historian Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger), will Ben be able to steal the Declaration of Independence before his former benefactor, Ian Howe (Sean Bean), thwart the F.B.I. and find the final clues to the treasure?  While you’re watching this swashbuckler, make sure you follow the clues to these movie goofs.

It’s All in the Eyes

Watch young Ben’s (Hunter Gomez) eyes as compared to his older self in the movie.  It appears that Hunter’s eyes are darker compared to Nicolas Cage’s.

History Anyone?

After Ben has found the pipe aboard the Charlotte, he tries to figure out the next clue and mentions the 55 men who signed the Declaration of Independence.  The Declaration was actually signed by 56 men. (Signers of the Declaration of Independence).  The movie did correctly identify Charles Carroll as the last surviving signer!

The Disappearing Glasses

In several scenes, Riley’s glasses appear and disappear.  This can especially be seen when Riley is running the surveillance cable (before the heist) and afterwards when he returns to the van.

The Chase is On

After the Declaration of Independence has been stolen, Ben and Riley pursue the van with Ian and Abigail (who is holding on to the doors for dear life).  Keep an eye on the first van as it crashes through a construction site.  From inside the van looking through the windshield, the glass is hit and cracks.  But, in shots of the van from the outside, the crack is nowhere to be seen.

Does Anyone Have the Correct Time?

In the movie, the clock tower on the back of the $100 bill was said to read 2:22.  However, according to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the correct time is 4:10;   although no one knows the reason why this time is depicted.
