O Brother, Where Art Thou?

“I'm a Dapper Dan man!” – Ulysses Everett McGill (“O Brother, Where Art Thou? – 2000)

Based on “The Odyssey” by Homer, 2000’s “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” told the story of Everett (George Clooney), Pete (John Turturro) and Delmar (Tim Blake Nelson), prison escapees who only have days to find a hidden treasure before the secret location is flooded.  Along the way, the three must overcome a series of obstacles while being hounded by a ruthless sheriff (Daniel von Bargen).  While you’re watching this comedy, here are a few things to look for.

Nice Parking Job!

Everett, Pete and Delmar are in the vehicle with Tommy (Chris Thomas King), when they pull up to the radio station.  The overhead shot of the vehicle shows that Everett parks the car straight, near the steps.  In the close-up of the men getting out of the vehicle, the car is parked at an angle (the front is pointed away from the radio station).

Hats Off!

After the run in with the three sirens (Mia Tate, Christy Taylor and Musetta Vander), we see a close-up of Delmar with a puddle of water next to his right ear.  As he looks up, we see another shot that shows his hat a few feet away, near his right side.  Delmar looks at Everett and the next close-up of him shows his hat near his head on the rock.

Put It Away For Safe Keeping!

When Everett and Delmar are in the restaurant talking with the waitress, Everett reaches in his overalls pocket and brings out a bundle of cash.  A few moments later we see him put the cash back in his pocket.  The scene cuts to a shot of Big Dan (John Goodman) and in the next far shot of Everett and Delmar, they’re talking to the waitress and we see Everett put the cash in his pocket again!

Where Did He Go?

When Everett, Delmar, Pete and Tommy make it to the cabin, they're ambushed by the sheriff and his men.  One of the men, in a brown hat, is behind them during the entire scene, even when they're talking to the sheriff while standing under the nooses.  Once Everett gets to his knees and starts to pray, the man in the brown hat is no longer there.

Where Are They Taking Him?

Near the end of the movie, Everett, Pete and Delmar see a captured George “Babyface” Nelson being led away, presumably to the electric chair.  However, the real George Nelson (b. 6 December 1908) was killed as a result of a shootout with F.B.I. agents in Wilmette, Illinois on the 27th of November, 1934.
