Star Wars : Episode IV - A New Hope

”The Force can have a strong influence on the weak minded.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi (“Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” – 1977)

The very first “Star Wars” movie was released in 1977 and has since become one of the most popular films in history.  The story tells of Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) mission to save Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) from the grips of the evil Empire with help from Ben “Obi Wan” Kenobi (Alec Guiness), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker).  In 1977 the effects and lighting were state of the art.  However, there are still a few bloopers to be seen.  The following is a list of updated mistakes that can be seen in the movie.

Dead Man Moving

At the beginning of the movie, when the Imperial troops come aboard Leia’s ship, Darth Vader grabs one of the rebels and breaks his neck.  Watch when he tosses the man against the wall.  The “dead man” puts up both hands to break the impact.

C-3PO’s Costume

Throughout the movie, look closely at C-3PO’s costume.  Because of the material, there are a number of times when the camera crew or equipment is reflected in the costume.  For example, when Luke is practicing with the light saber, a reflection of the equipment used can be seen.  Also, the film crew is reflected in C-3PO’s suit during the scene when the pilots are returning after the attack on the Death Star.

R2-D2 Loses His Head, Or Does He

When R2-D2 is riding with Luke during the trench run, there is a scene where a Tie Fighter shoots the cap off of R2’s head.  However, in the next scene, it’s still there.

Obi Wan’s Cloak

The light saber battle between Darth Vader and Obi Wan is one of the biggest scenes in the movie.  Darth Vader clearly strikes Obi Wan, who disappears, becoming part of the force.  The only thing remaining is Obi Wan’s cloak which falls intact without a mark on it.

Light Sabers

If you have a keen eye, keep a close watch on the light sabers throughout the movie.  Some appear to change color and/or brightness from time to time.
